Something I read seems like a pretty good answer to the question of why this case hasn't been investigated further.
The point is that the police didn't call witnesses back. People who saw her walking in the neighborhood and reported it independently of each other. One of those people knew Laci. The point is, if Laci was alive at that time, the police blew it.
LSmith highlighted the witnesses and when they called police and noted the unresponsiveness of law enforcement, then says:
How can anyone have confidence or faith in an investigation done by police officers that refused to return the calls of people who thought they saw the missing pregnant woman? Harshman also initially called on Dec. 28....and resorted to having a NYC police officer friend of his contact the MPD after not having his calls returned. Still - no one contacted him. Grogan contacted him on ........May 18th, 2004.....a year after Laci's body had been found. Grogan's excuse on the stand......they didn't fall into the 10:08 - 10:18 timeline. Keep in mind when these people were calling in...Dec. 28th, Dec. 30th, January 1st and possibly earlier.....the timeline was 9:30 (estimate that Scott had left the house) to 10:30 (Servas found the dog). The 10:08 didn't come into play until after Scott's arrest.....after the bodies were found.......... after they got his phone records. How can you have faith in a case put together by people that were so sure Scott Peterson was guilty - even BEFORE learning about the affair that they didn't even bother to investigate Laci's last possible whereabouts? They did not try to find her. Just imagine if Laci HAD been abducted and kept alive for a week and they didn't save her because they were too focused on Scott........how many heads would roll if that came out?
